Xuguang Wang is a research director at French Institute of Science and Technology for Transport, Development and Networks (IFSTTAR, formerly INRETS). He obtained his PhD in solid mechanics from Ecole Centrale de Lyon in 1991 and his HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) from University Claude Bernard – Lyon 1 in 2008. He joined INRETS in 1991 and has been working on digital human modeling for ergonomic simulation since then. He was one of main investigators of the European research project REALMAN from 2001 to 2004. He was the scientific coordinator of an EU funded project DHErgo (Digital Humans for Ergonomic design of products, 2008-2011), aiming to develop dynamic and musculoskeletal human models for ergonomic design of products. In addition, he has been involved in several national and industrial research projects especially with car manufacturers (Renault, Peugeot Citroën Automobile, Renault Trucks, Toyota Motor Europe, Ford, etc). His current research concerns digital human modeling, human motion control and simulation, discomfort modeling for workplace design such as vehicle interior design. More recently, he started to investigate seating discomfort in collaboration with an important aerospace supplier. He is participating, as a work package leader, in a European collaborative project for personalizing and positioning human models for injury prediction (www.piper-project.org, 2013-2017). He has authored and co-authored over 100 technical papers in the field. He is a regular guest reviewer for several international journals in ergonomics, biomechanics, robotics, and computer animation. In addition to his research activities, he gives the lectures on engineering anthropometry and digital human models for design in several universities and engineering schools in France. He was an active member of Society of Automotive Engineers G13 committee on digital human modeling and helped SAE in organizing 2006 Digital Human Modeling Conference in Lyon. He organized the first IEA (International Ergonomics Association) Digital Human Modeling Conference in Lyon in 2011. He served as scientific committee member for major DHM related conferences (HCI, AFHE, IEA).
